My son

Having a son is a challenge at times. They like cars, ninja turtles, transformers, dirt, bugs, typical boy things. There are times I listen to him talk about something he is so excited about that I can't relate to. As he gets older it feels he gets further away from me, wanting me to only kiss him goodbye outside his class room so that none of his friends see. He's at school most of the day and then has homework when he gets home so it feels we don't get much quality time to connect.

As he's gotten older I feel he has come to understand the importance of a mother. He has always been a daddy's boy but I think he sees what only a mom can give. He didn't want to be hugged and held as much a few years ago as he was trying to gain his independace but now he is wanting that affection again and I'm so thankful for it! My little boy is thoughtful, caring and loving. He thinks of others, just now offering me a piece of gum from a party he went to yesterday because he says he didn't have any tootsie rolls (my favorite). I look forward to seeing him grow up and becoming whatever he wants. I know he will do great things as I can see his potential. He is very smart and handsome, I couldn't ask for more than that. I am lucky to have him as my son and will always be here whenever he needs me. I pray that as the years go by we will keep a close relationship and he will feel comfortable talking to me about anything. I love my little boy who pretty soon won't be little anymore.

Just wanted to share

In November I worked with the 4th grade to make snowmen, snowflakes and gingerbread houses to display in the showcase (bulletin board at Matthew's school) for the month of December. I made little display boards that I put on the table in front of the showcase so everyone would know who made the things in the case and later gave them to the teachers as momentos. I entitled the board "Winter is a Wonderful Time to Read." Since I am also the RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) coordinator at the school I thought it would be a great way to tie into the December distribution. I did a "Books Are Treasures" theme with pirates for the actual distribution but I wanted to just have a winter scene in the showcase. I love how this one turned out, it is my favorite so far. The kids did a great job! Click on the pictures to get a closer look!

I changed the showcase last week. I worked with the third grade designing it about Rome, what they are learning about right now in class. One class made pottery out of clay, another class made mosaics with foam and one other class colored birds to look like mosaics. Originally when I approached all 4 teachers 2 declined to participate but the day after I put up the display one of the two teachers brought the mosaic birds to me. I felt it was only hurting the kids if I did not put them up so I did my best to add them to the display. I wasn't sure about the board when I first put it up but now I am happy with it. I have had lots of compliments on it but the best was an adult that works at the school told me she sees alot of kids looking at it. That was unexpected. I really enjoy working with the kids and it's fun to see my ideas work out in the end. It's time to start thinking about next months board!

Family time

Jeremy's older brother John and his family came to visit for a few days. Friday we went to the mall and then to see the lights in Virginia beach on the board walk. Saturday we went to Blue bird gap farm to see the animals and let the kids play for a little bit. Afterwards we went to Walmart to pick up some things so that Liz could teach me how to make an authentic Mexican meal. After dinner the kids played with these little sticky toys you throw on the wall or ceiling and watch it fall down. We made churros also, a Mexican dessert. They left early Sunday morning and we were so sad when they left.

Jeremy tells me not to do anything for his birthday every year, this year he even told the kids he doesn't have a birthday but that didn't stop me. A few weeks ago I sent him to Texas to visit his family for his birthday present. The kids and I got him cards and an Oreo ice cream cake from Dairy Queen on his birthday. We spent the day hanging out with his oldest brother John and family who came to visit for a few days. He enjoyed his birthday this year!

Christmas

We started listening to Christmas music right after Halloween this year, really early we were in the spirit. We all love this time of year and even bought our tree really early. I feel like this year we had such a long time to enjoy Christmas but here I am New Years day and refuse to take down the tree. We went to my moms house Christmas Eve, had dinner and opened presents. It was great to see my Nana, my Uncle Stephen, Aunt Denise and Aunt Angie. We don't see them hardly at all through the year. I enjoyed spending some time with my mom and felt she enjoyed her time with us. When we got home from my moms we put out Egg nog and cookies for Santa and of course sprinkled the Reindeer food on the front lawn, both we do every year.

Christmas morning we woke up to lots of stuff under the tree for the kids. Santa was very generous and there were presents from us and family out of state too. The kids loved all their presents especially from their Uncle Donnie & Aunt Laura. They are super good and picking out things for Matthew & Natalie. That night we went to my sisters for dinner and got a few presents there also. It was a great holiday and I am sad it's over already.
