Bye bye bunnies...

The other day the kids and I went outside to check on the bunnies. I used a stick to gently move the grass from the hole so we could see them. All of a sudden one of the babies jumped out of the hole and hopped half way through our yard. I told the kids to go inside quickly and quietly hoping the bunny would go back to the hole. Later Jeremy checked and he said there were only 2 bunnies. So yesterday morning he checked again and said all the bunnies were gone. We went out for a bit, when we got home Jeremy yelled my name from the back door. I went outside and he showed me 1 baby bunny sitting under our siding in our back yard. It's still out there now and it's so cute. Jeremy put some celery out there for it just in case it's hungry. It's so fat and furry, I think she wants to stay here with us. Haha.

Baby bunnies

A few weeks ago Jeremy & I decided to give the baby a nickname until we decide on a real name. We decided on the name "Bunny." Ironically last week I was cutting grass and saw something brownish moving in the grass area next to me. A few minutes before I had mowed over it and decided it wasn't short enough so I went over it again. I jumped off the mower to see what it was. I first thought it was a mouse cause we have seen them close by. To my surprise it was 3 baby bunnies in a hole. I wasn't sure at first if they were in fact bunnies cause their ears were short so I ran in to do a search on the computer for pictures of baby bunnies. Sure enough I saw a picture of the same exact thing I saw in my yard. We have wild rabbits in the area so it only made since. I went back outside to see if any of them were hurt, lucky enough they weren't. I went over that hole (without knowing it) twice. I guess they were asleep and me mowing the grass woke them up causing one of them to instinctively start hopping. They didn't even have their eyes open yet. I called Jeremy and the SPCA. I was told to just cover over the hole and maybe the mother would come get them. When the kids got home I showed them the bunnies, they were so excited.

Later that night I got in contact with a lady from a rabbit rescue and she said the mother probably wouldn't move them but she would come after sun down to feed them. Following her directions I put 2 pieces of dental floss in the shape of an x over the grass covering the hole so in the morning we would know if the mother came to feed them. The next morning Jeremy said it was all moved and they were exposed. We knew from that morning on the mom probably wouldn't cover them back up and with the weather we were getting from the hurricane that was coming they would be cold so we went out to check them a few times a day. We weren't sure what to do with Hurricane Hanna coming so Jeremy had the idea of putting a baby pool over the hole but propped it up so the mom could still get to the babies. Now they have their eyes open and I know we will all be sad when they leave but I am so glad they turned out ok and we have had this chance to have 3 guests to watch grow. Ironically also in March we will have 3 total "bunnies" of our own.

Quiet

This morning Jeremy and I took the kids to school for their first day. The school has a policy that you can't walk them down to their classroom the first week. As we walked up to the front they had a line for each grade. I walked Natalie over to the first grade line, she said "I want you to stay." She had just fallen and hurt her knee so she really wanted me then. Jeremy walked Matthew all the way over to the fourth grade line, wow. Fourth grade, my baby isn't a baby anymore huh!? He was one of the shortest in the line, little guy. I walked over and said goodbye to him making sure not to embarrass him. Jeremy left and I hung out for a bit off to the side waiting for my mom and brother to get there. I took his picture and talked to my mom for a minute as he walked in to the school. When I got home it hit me, the kids are at school and it's quiet. Wow, I have to get use to this all over again. Now it's time to find a job!
